OMG chinese Butterfly boy ..

‘Butterfly’ boy flaps his wings to college despite body limitations

Mei Xiao is a miracle in the eyes of all of those who know him.

The 19-year-old “Butterfly" boy has been fighting a life-limiting skin condition – epidermolysis bullosa (EB) – since he was born, which has left him without skin over half of his body.

And the boy seems to be winning the battle.

The boy, from Chizhou city, east China’s Anhui Province, has been through great sufferings. His medical condition means that his skin keeps peeling off, leaving him bleeding all over frequently. His fingers, toes as well as facial muscles have been atrophied, leaving him incapable of holding anything or moving without others' help. The young boy is also blind in one eye.

Most of his body has been wrapped in bandage to protect him from infections, and his life is a cycle of medication, antibiotics and ointments -- all to soothe his pain and keep him alive.

But against all the odds, Mei chose a path that is unimaginable for many. He insisted on going to school, and did fairly well. Last year, he was admitted to a vocational institute in Chizhou.

He is currently continuing his studies on campus, under the care of his mother, and has his life plans to realize.

“My next goal is getting an accounting certificate, so that I can find a job to support myself and repay my parents and all those who have helped me.”

  1. I lived in China for ten years. As a teacher, I spent my weekends in the countryside...trying to find those with serious afflictions who needed top-notch medical assistance. I was able to get the attention of the American Medical Association to help many rural Chinese who suffered serious medical conditions. Several times, American doctors paid for Chinese to fly to America for life-saving treatments. I would like to know more about this young man and his medical treatments. His mother shouldn't be carrying him around! This young man needs a wheelchair!
